17 facts and myths about great skin

http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-07-22/beauty/30275...

By increasing blood flow, exercise helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. "Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin," says dermatologist Ellen Marmur, MD, author of Simple Skin Beauty: Every Woman's Guide to a Lifetime of Healthy, Gorgeous Skin and associate professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In addition to providing oxygen, blood flow also helps carry away waste products, including free radicals, from working cells. Contrary to some claims, exercise doesn't detoxify the skin. The job of neutralizing toxins belongs mostly to the  liver. "But by increasing blood flow, a bout of exercise helps flush cellular debris out of the system," Marmur tells WebMD. "You can think of it as cleansing your skin from the inside."

Exercise has also been shown to ease stress. "And by decreasing stress, some conditions that can be exacerbated by stress can show some improvement," says Brian B. Adams, MD, associate professor and director of the Sports Dermatology Clinic at the University of Cincinnati. Conditions that can improve when stress is reduced include acne and  eczema. Although researchers are still investigating the link between stress and skin, studies show that the sebaceous glands, which produce oil in the skin, are influenced by stress hormones.

I thought of starting this blog post after the following experience. Like how a suggestion from a friend helped me, I wish that this blog post including the comments would be of value to people. Most of the following isn't related to improving facial skin quality (do see the comments below for skin related updates):

I started going to gym in my apartment complex. During evening, I went to salon in my apartment complex. The owner is my friend. I asked about (glycerin + gulab jal + lemon) mix to apply on face for several pimples that have come on my face. He said I should try it. He also said to drink Safi. I said that I'm looking for a new gym since not working out regularly in recent weeks has probably also brought several pimples. He said that why don't I go to the one in my apartment complex. I said that I'll check it out which I did and they've serviced the equipment only a week ago. It's fine and moreover it saves my time a lot which I can use for dance class that I've wanted to join for a long while. Also, I've always wanted to go to gym twice in a day with cardio in morning and weight training in evening which I can try to do now much better.

After checking out the gym, I went to the salon and asked my friend to come along with me to workout on which the person said that the society doesn't allow them for which I felt very upset. I said I would try to speak with society management on which the person said that it has already been discussed. I wish this person can exercise regularly. I'm very thankful to this person for the suggestion. I also keep giving this person my suggestions on marketing and other things. I wish that we can be of value to each other for the long term.

I also spoke to a yoga teacher who had held a class for ladies in the community center. He's trying to setup a power yoga class for males and which I'm looking forward to if the batch can be made.

Best,
Shakti

Be careful when a beautician tells you that a skin specialist wouldn't recommend a beautician and a beautician wouldn't recommend a skin specialist related to treating acne.

The beautician might also say that you're free to decide, however, the beautician doesn't recommend going to the skin specialist. It's possible that the beautician doesn't mean your ill and actually thinks that going to skin specialist is of no use.

In this regard, I suggest that you tell the beautician that the skin specialist and the beautician have different values and that you do go to a good to great skin specialist.

I went to one few weeks ago and I'm seeing remarkable difference. I wish that this would finish the issue from the inside. I had also seen nice difference by the beautician's work and I do think that facials have their own value. Best!

A very senior dermatologist prescribed me Septilin and so thought of sharing it here

From http://www.himalayahealthcare.com/products/pharmaceuticals/septilin...

Septilin

Builds the body's own defense mechanism

Action:

Enhances immunity: Septilin’s immunomodulatory, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties are beneficial in maintaining general well-being. It increases the level of antibody-forming cells, thereby elevating the body’s resistance to infection. Septilin stimulates phagocytosis (elimination of bacteria through ingestion) by macrophage (white blood cells) activation, which combats infection.

Other benefits: Septilin possesses antipyretic (reduces fever) properties. It is also beneficial in respiratory tract infections, including chronic tonsillitis, pharyngitis, chronic bronchitis, nasal catarrh (mucous membrane inflammation of the respiratory tract) and laryngitis.

Indications:

As an immunomodulator in the management of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, allergic disorders of the upper respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections, dental and periodontal infections, ocular infections, bone and joint infections and urinary tract infections

For early recovery in postoperative conditions

To reduce recurrence in infection-prone individuals

As an adjuvant to anti-infective therapy

    Resistance to antibiotic therapy

Key ingredients:

Tinospora Gulancha (Guduchi) is a potent antimicrobial that has immunostimulatory properties, which helps in increasing the level of antibodies. This helps in building up the body’s resistance to infections.

Licorice (Yashtimadhu) enhances immunostimulation and increases macrophage (white blood cells that ingests antibodies) function in vitro. It is also an antiviral agent and an expectorant, which is beneficial in asthma, acute or chronic bronchitis and chronic cough.

Indian Bdellium (Guggulu) has anti-inflammatory properties, which soothe sore throat and help reduce inflammation. As an antioxidant, Indian Bdellium helps in maintaining overall health.

Directions for use:

Please consult your physician to prescribe the dosage that best suits the condition.

Available as tablets or as a syrup.

Side effects:

Septilin is not known to have any side effects if taken as per the prescribed dosage.

Amazing! Before going to physiotherapist, I wrote on my wall: "I just commented on someone's photo: Nice! Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun. - Pablo Picasso"

After physiotherapist, at the gym on the HDTV of LifeFitness treadmill, I got someone to turn it on and that saw the ad of Pond's White Beauty playing and that a beautiful woman was dressed in yellow sari and dancing in the ad. The channel was of a different language than Hindi or English. Some language was written on top. Moreover, I used a different treadmill than I've been using and that which also delayed me because it had to be turned on, however, the ad was nice and that it made me feel nice that we seem to be having nice products in India for skin care given such miserably pathetic environmental conditions. I've also heard people damaging their hair a lot because of the water quality. I don't know how many people's health is also worsening due to food adulteration. It's great that we're having such options for skin care which can be easily used without people having to spend a lot of time creating their own home versions which most likely many people might not even realize that if they would mix ingredients improperly then that might even harm them. I wish that more and more and better and better such products would be made available in India and that also at more and more affordable prices because of the several and increasingly worsening issues impacting our skin.

After the ad, I changed the channel to Die Hard 4.0 movie and after which I also watched Taking Lives movie, however, I didn't complete it because I had to go for a meeting and that I thought of the possible ending which I'm going to read about online to see if similar happens. I thought that there's no baby and that this is a setup to catch the serial killer. I had left when the fighting sequence between Angelina Jolie who's the detective and the serial killer had just started. I've to say that Angelina Jolie is beautiful!

The meeting was nice!!! The head of product development who's also the subject matter expert with decades of relevant industry experience said that we've to think about what our customers would exactly want so that they can be asked to pay and that he wasn't clear about the same. Without this clarity, the IT development work can't even be started and for which I've been involved as an equal partner. They've been working on this project for few months and that they do have a great overall vision, however, they weren't able to structure what should they exactly do for the first release. I suggested that making an aircraft carrier can be long-term vision, however, first there has to be greatness in making the much smaller and still valuable boats and that we can keep growing from there. I suggested the first thing that we should develop having business value on which everyone else agreed and then they also shared valuable inputs.

Some hours before this meeting, when I was discussing with someone on society, environment and world and what I try to do then that person had said that what other people around might think of such a talk on which I said that I've had many talks over the years in public environments and that I think of being like Arjun who only saw the eye of the fish. I also said that people seem to focus a lot on moral values when it comes to religions, however, I focus on human values and that a baby anywhere in the world smiles when happy. I said that I was brought up in a Hindu family and so I came across few things several times and that I think there seems much of human value also in Hindu religion. I'm happy that I was able to share a valuable first thing that we should develop having business value when the subject matter expert who's also the product manager and a partner said that he wasn't clear on what we should develop even though he has a great long-term vision for this. I think that this is the main reason why he kept delaying this project and that since past few days when I got formally involved, he has already written the vision document and that now would be writing the first set of requirements to be developed by me and my team. God, please help me and us to make this work increasingly valuable for society, environment and world.

Some hours before, someone had asked me that he thinks that I'm doing what I do for some other reason like getting into politics or business than for the society on which I told him that I've three companies and that my efforts are for society, environment and world. I would also keep trying to work with the different parts of society both at local and global levels. I said that people are trying to become financially better and that I would think for having a higher quality of life, however, are they really getting that. My efforts are to make society, environment and world better in ways that everyone would contribute better to their quality of life and then also to my quality of life. Otherwise, I would also keep traveling in very high and severely harmful and worsening pollution, having increasingly harmful food and water and keep facing several other increasingly worsening issues. I said that is it even human to bring a child to our world when the parents can't give proper support and care to the child. The person asked me if I've found anyone like me on which I said that I haven't. I didn't mean to say that I'm the best, however, I find people to become greedy at some level or not really want to contribute like the best or else India would also be like the best. I'm not against wealth, however, I think that things like greed actually worsens us. I think that to pursue greatness and to become like the best, we might even have to plant the first flower in a garden and that also let the nature do its work. I'm sure that there are great people in India and worldwide and I wish to keep learning and also contributing with them. Best!

AMAZING!!! WOW!!! I was just going through more photos of a person for perhaps I might share any work that I do with her.

I saw her photo which mentions POND'S on her sash and that just before doing this, I had written on my wall about Pond's White Beauty ad with a model wearing yellow sari and dancing which I had seen earlier today when the HDTV on the treadmill had turned on.

Before the gym and physiotherapist, I had commented on her another photo: "Nice! Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun. - Pablo Picasso".

I wish to increasingly work with models related to fitness and fashion including through the Health and Fitness India network

Beauty Secrets from Irina Shayk

Start the morning right. In the morning, I like to rub my face with an ice cube made of chamomile infusion or green tea. I love to moisturize my skin with a slice of fresh cucumber.

Steam it out and scrub it off. I love a Russian sauna—banya—and always use there a special scrub that I make myself: I mix honey and sea salt. I use only this scrub for my face and body.

The Look of Love star, Anna Friel, who is currently said to be dating actor Rhys Ifans, also drinks around 12 cups a day of the special brew made with hot cayenne pepper, maple syrup and lemon juice. It's said to be her detox and anti-ageing treatment. And she admits to be very pleased with that also.

"It's amazing. I've been drinking it for two months and I feel so much better and my skin has really benefited. I'm always searching for pure, natural skin products," she said.

To preserve her youthful looks, Friel also has regular vampire facials, which involves having her own blood re-injected back into her face. "It's meant to help your skin heal itself and boosts collagen. It makes my skin really glowy and tight again," she said.

Your skin can get dehydrated during the Monsoons; hence, ensure you apply your moisturizer regularly! Do you moisturize your skin daily?

Comment by Shakti Saran on August 3, 2013 at 2:09am

Humidity can make your skin itchy, leading to redness of the skin and making it vulnerable to pimples.

Is the humidity making your skin oily? Excess oil can lead to pimples and other related problems.

Read somewhere (always check with doctor if there's any medical issue):

The benefits of drinking water have been much discussed in the media. Water helps keep you hydrated, which is important because every single cell in your body needs it in order to absorb nutrients and expel waste products. But what are some of the less well known benefits of drinking water?

1) Drinking Water Keeps You Young

Drinking plenty of water is great for your skin. If you don't drink enough water, you'll suffer from dry skin, and you'll be likely to use more creams and lotions to moisturize. However, creams and lotions don't strike at the root of the problem. Drinking plenty of water keeps your skin moisturized and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

If you don't drink enough water, your body will try to retain it in order to conserve resources. This retention makes your skin puffy and can even lead to bloating.

2) Drinking Water Helps You Lose Weight

There's a reason why most diets and fitness programs ask you to drink a lot of water. One of the benefits of drinking water is that it helps you lose weight.

Water suppresses your appetite, so you don't eat as much. Drinking plenty of water also prevents fluid retention, because your body won't try to retain water if it's getting enough.

Drinking water also helps your body burn stored fat. If you're not drinking enough water, your liver will be forced to help your kidneys detoxify your body. When you drink plenty of water, your kidneys don't need any extra help, so your liver will be able to metabolize stored fat more efficiently. Drinking water flushes toxins from your body and prevents constipation.

3) Drinking Water Helps You Build Muscle

Another benefit of drinking water is that it makes your muscles stronger. That's because water carries oxygen to the cells of your body, including those of your muscles. Drinking plenty of water enables your muscles to work harder and longer before they feel tired, and this can help you build muscle.

4) Drinking Water Makes You Smarter

Drinking water can increase your cognitive function. Your brain needs a lot of oxygen in order to function at optimum levels. Drinking plenty of water ensures that your brain gets all the oxygen it needs. Drinking eight to ten cups of water per day can improve your levels of cognitive performance by as much as 30%!

Drinking plenty of water also supports nerve function. It ensures that your body's electrolyte levels remain high enough to allow your nerves to relay messages to and from the brain in the way they were meant to.

5) Drinking Water Is Good for Your Joints

One of the lesser known benefits of drinking water is that it helps keep your joints strong, healthy and lubricated. Your joints need moisture in order to remain strong and flexible, so that your movements are smooth and pain free.

Why night creams always provide best results?

  • Because our cellular regeneration is fastest at night and this is the reason behind the successful night creams. Night creams are made up of water-in-oil base and they contain nourishing ingredients. So every morning you enjoy good supple skin after good 8 hours sleep. The skin absorbs the ingredients at night at the peak level. A good night cream should get absorbed easily by skin and no slippery effect after application. So if your cream is thick just avoid it!

  • Like this- night-serums, anti-ageing creams etc work!
