Rhinoplasty is one cosmetic procedure that is performed for both aesthetic and functional reasons. While most people prefer undergoing rhinoplasty surgery in India, they have no or little clue of preparing for the procedure. Here we bring you a quick guide to prepare for nose surgery.
Prior to the surgery
Before the nose job, there are many steps that you have to take to speed up the recovery, reduce the chances of complications and minimize post-surgery discomfort.
Diet
In the weeks prior to the surgery, it is important for patients to eat healthy food. Intake of proper nutrition would speed the healing process while minimizing the risk of developing an infection. Specifically, patients should eat plenty of whole grains, vegetables and fruits, and lean protein. Equally beneficial are nutrition supplements. Your plastic surgeon might recommend particular supplements, including bromelain, and vitamin A and vitamin C.
At the same time, patients have to avoid some type of foods and supplements that might trigger surgical complications and slow healing process. Patients should steer clear of ginseng, gingko, vitamin E supplements and ginger. Some herbal and homeopathicsupplements can also cause complications with anesthesia. Thus, check with the doctor before adding additional nutrition to the diet plan.
Many doctors advise patients to stop drinking alcohol at least one to four weeks prior to the surgery.
Smoking
Use of nicotine and tobacco can slow blood flow throughout the body. As oxygen does not reach the incision areas quickly, smokers might take a much longer time for recovery and unfavorable scarring and high risk of developing the infection. You should quit smoking at least one to two weeks before the rhinoplasty surgery.
Medications
Those who are preparing for nose surgery should inform their cosmetic surgeon about all the medications they are taking. Some medications can cause problems after or before the procedure. The surgeon might prescribe a safer alternative or take off of a medication. Usually, intake of medicines such as ibuprofen, aspirin should be avoided as they can cause blood to thin.
The day prior to the nose surgery, you should take full rest. In particular, certain medications might be prescribed to make the entire procedure easy for you. The way you prepare for the rhinoplasty surgery plays a crucial role in determining recovery. Following the instructions given by the plastic surgeon is the most important thing if you are considering undergoing any plastic surgery procedure.
