fitness (116)

Just got back from gym. Some hours ago, I had shared on my FB https://www.facebook.com/slateandchalk.net and Google+ https://plus.google.com/114752368140246871853 a video PEOPLE ARE AWESOME 2013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6XUVjK9W4o in which a monk child was jumping ahead and up on his head. Some hours before that, I had shared what Bill Gates has said "And if I could wave a wand, I'd love to have a way to measure how exposure to risks like disease, infection, malnutrition and problem pregnancies impact children's potential—their ability to learn and contribute to society." which is published in this article http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323539804578261780648285770.html. After those two shares, I thought of my yesterday's (Republic Day) share of the Bengal Tiger photo and then thought that if all humans only just maximized their basic level of health and fitness then how great would that be for mankind and our world overall.

After several days, I again carried my visiting cards to my apartment complex's gym which mentions my web-site http://www.personalfoldersoftware.com (thankfully it comes as a top link when searched for data privacy software). Before carrying the cards, I wrote on them my Health and Fitness India network's web-site http://www.healthfitnessindia.com. When I reached the gym, for the first time I saw a group of school and college going people and that I shared my cards with them. It was a nice conversation with them and that I wish that they would get value from my efforts. I also shared with them about I getting a lot of acne which might be due to having a lot of egg yolks during past two months as I was experimenting with egg yolks as a source of protein. Now, I'm having egg whites only without the yolks.

Before going to the gym, I went to the boiled egg vendor. I saw the vendor's little girl giving egg to a little boy on paper. I didn't clearly see if the paper had ink on it or not but since the vendor lady was there, I shared with her about not serving on paper with ink on it. I had shared the same with them some years ago and then didn't notice them serve on paper since then but then I've rarely gone to their shop until past few months when I've become regular again. She said that it's expensive to use paper plates because to get them cheap, they'll have to travel far. I shared with her that they can think of buying in bulk since they've to keep using it and I wish that they would even use it for a single boiled egg. I told her that others might not even realize the issue and that if we'll tell them then they might also care about it (and as more and more people would care, that should lead to technical and business innovations towards improving society and environment overall). I then thought of this as being a potential opportunity for someone who can bring paper plates in bulk to this area (Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, U.P.) and that sell to several customers while adding value to society by sharing with food vendors about the issue of using paper with ink for serving food on it.

During gym, I remembered a nearby area around where I haven't been in a while and where I often saw pigs eating from garbage. Highly unfortunately, that area is next to a market and is on a major road of the area. I wish that we humans would do everything that we can do for making our food, water, air and land as great as possible. I also wish that we humans would at minimum maximize our basic level of health and fitness. Thank You and All the Best! Shakti

Meditation - Health Fitness India

I've been meditating a bit for a decade and half now. However, I've been searching for a nice Yoga school to also improve myself in it. Recently, I thought that I had found one by visiting its web-site. I went to its class in a nearby top hospital where it's conducted, however, their evening timing was incorrect since I found out there that classes are only held during mornings. I thought that this was general administration's fault which seems to be with several things in India and not of the specialist yoga teachers themselves. However, there was very high amount of pollution on the way and so I decided to not go there including in the mornings because by when the class would've gotten over, the traffic would've increased much and that which would've also kept me in that very high pollution that much longer. If you're concerned about pollution then I welcome you to also read and share http://www.healthfitnessindia.com/profiles/blogs/anti-pollution-mask-delhi-metro-police

I just read "At Shell, a Grassroots Effort Aims to Nourish Innovation Via Meditation" http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article.cfm?articleid=3063 and that felt being a part of a great world and that humans are still pursuing greatness including for our world:

-----

Knowledge@Wharton: Recently, we published a series of articles on a meditation program at Google, called "Search Inside Yourself," which makes an explicit connection between mindfulness, meditation practice and emotional intelligence. I wonder whether at Shell you view it in a similar light and if so, what implications that might have for the way your program is built?

Mandar Apte: Yes, there is definitely a link. From my perspective, the link is that we're all busy; we're all racing to solve challenges. As for innovation, you know, it's all about thinking of new things. One has to learn how to drop the old habits, the old ideas, the old concepts and it's like taking a pause from the business of today, a gap in your mind from the train of thoughts. That's what meditation allows you. It gives you tools and techniques to pause. And silence is the mother of creativity. So, if you can invoke that space of silence within yourself -- through any means -- it need not be through meditative practice -- it could be any other means that anybody chooses to adopt. That's the first step. The second step involves social processes and interpersonal skills. If you can invoke that quality of compassion or empathy in yourself, where you are not judging yourself, you're not criticizing yourself, nor are you judging somebody else, then I think there is a space for insights to be created. These qualities are crucial for grooming your own innovative skills and nourishing the innovation culture in an organization.

-----

I would keep sharing valuable readings and experiences on meditation in the posts. I welcome you to read and share if you like.

Best,

Shakti

I-20 each of us improve lives of 20 people

What if we can start I-20 in which each of us can try to improve the lives of 20 people who generally don't use the Internet and aren't as educated as us?

It's easier to write on the Internet and which we can keep doing because it's also of value, however, we must reach others also and that printing out valuable materials for them or even just speaking to them might make that crucial positive impact for advancing India and our world. Please do it if you like. It's not about what we'll get today but what our world would get till humanity would exist and I'm sure that if they'll improve then it should also help us during our lifetimes. Thank You and All the Best!

Bill Gates: And if I could wave a wand, I'd love to have a way to measure how exposure to risks like disease, infection, malnutrition and problem pregnancies impact children's potential—their ability to learn and contribute to society. Measuring that could help us quantify the broader impact of those risks and help us tackle them. Following the path of the steam engine long ago, thanks to measurement, progress isn't "doomed to be rare and erratic." We can, in fact, make it commonplace. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323539804578261780648285770.html

Knee Pain - Health Fitness India

Knee Pain resources

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003187.htm

http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/knee-pain/Pages/Introduction.aspx

http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/sport-injuries/knee-pain

I thought of sharing the above after this which I shared on my FB wall:

The world is amazing! At gym today, I asked if I could get 6 boiled eggs for 40 INR since they sell 4 for 30 INR and 2 for 20 INR. I was told no. I thought of not spending that much at gym when I can get one boiled egg for 5 INR outside even though getting them at gym would save 5 or so minutes of my time. I went to the egg vendor nearby my place where I hadn't been to for a while. While talking to the lady about her kids which I generally always do when I visit, I said that her new stationary shop (which is with her egg shop which is her older business) should help children do more reading and writing and which should help them. I had earlier given her the contact info of some NGOs where her children might get some help. I would find more for her since I think they hadn't worked out for her perhaps also due to distance and that she can't take her children to them on a regular basis. Then she mentioned about having a lot of knee pain. I told her to visit a doctor. She mentioned some doctor nearby who has worked out well for her and that she would go to him. I told her that if that doctor is a general doctor then go to the hospital nearby and that show to a specialist. I told her that it would cost 300 INR for a checkup. She responded that her doctor charges 150 INR. I told her that spending double in this case is much better. I wish that I saving some money but spending more time would help her keep her knees well for a longer time even if she'll spend more going to the hospital than to the other doctor where she was going to go. I also told her that I'll bring her knee exercises which of course she should consult the doctor before doing them.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, 25 November By resolution 54/134 of 17 December 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designed to raise public awareness of the problem on that day. Women's activists have marked 25 November as a day against violence since 1981. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961). On 20 December 1993 the General Assembly, by resolution 48/104, adopted the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women. "Millions of women and girls around the world are assaulted, beaten, raped, mutilated or even murdered in what constitutes appalling violations of their human rights. [...] We must fundamentally challenge the culture of discrimination that allows violence to continue. On this International Day, I call on all governments to make good on their pledges to end all forms of violence against women and girls in all parts of the world, and I urge all people to support this important goal." Hi All,

I'd like to thank Mr. Sushant Sehgal to consent for the interview with the Health and Fitness India network. Our Q&A are as follows:

1. Why did you decide to enter the fitness industry?

Fitness is my passion. When I was in college I use to go for workouts in various gyms to know more about fitness. Then I started using those techniques taught to me by my trainers and used some variations in it. Then I thought it's better to come in this field, so that I can take my passion to a new level.

2. What are your specialties as a fitness professional?

I'm a physiotherapist and then I did diploma in yoga. Then when I decided to come in this field I applied and cleared my ACE exam. So my speciality is physiocare plus yoga along with fitness training. I prefer pilates and functional training more than weight training.

3. What's a great piece of advise that you've given to a client?

My advice is to be patient and results wil come automatically.

4. Can you please share any major mistakes that fitness professionals make?

Workout should be according to the needs and physical abilities of the member. Same workout is not recommended to all the people. As body type of each individual is different.

5. Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five and ten years from now?

My goal is to see myself, as an international fitness trainer.

Yesterday evening, the person who opens/closes the gym told me that I lift the most weight there. I told him that I'm a small guy and that there are so many much bigger people and also great bodybuilders and that I wish that I can keep improving lifelong. Then I searched for videos on Kashmir given the highly unfortunate current issue. Besides other videos, I also watched Defending the LoC Part-1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apddqw6Ks4g, Part-2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp2idHxTErM and Part-3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C74MR9g2R0c. Salute to Sipahi (Soldier) who laughs off the fear to protect me. This salute is to all Sipahis worldwide who protect humans. Imagine a world in which all such soldiers unite against those disregarding the universal human values.

After these videos, I read a spiritual article (I usually read an article at night with dad who generally gives it from one of the books). It was about mann (mind) and that it has ichcha-shakti (power to desire) and sankalp-shakti (power of intention). I've thought of several times to also go to gym in the morning for doing cardio since I lift weights during evening. I went to gym once in the morning some days ago the day after I reactivated the Health and Fitness India site http://www.healthfitnessindia.com. I reactivated it sooner than I had thought thinking that if we can't be healthy and fit then our heads might not remain in the proper place for long. Given current events, things seem very unfortunate in India and that being much healthier and fitter should help us do much better.

Today morning, I woke up without any alarm and that when I saw the time it was few minutes before 7am and that the gym in my apartment complex opens at 7am. However, I felt that I hadn't recovered from yesterday evening's workout well enough. I've to speed up recovery with nutrition products. For some months, I'm regularly eating eggs, often kala chana (bengal gram), sometimes soya and then lentils, oats, milk and other veg. food as protein sources. So I rested for another hour and half and then went to gym.

A different person opens/closes the gym in the morning. I spoke to him in general and that when I asked his name, he said Manveer! (Man here stands for Mind and Veer for Brave). He said that he wants to do business after some years. I told him that he can start today by selling imported and affordable anti pollution mask made using Defense technology which will be a great service to society and he can also earn well on the side. He told me to show it to him which I would. I wish that all of us can keep improving our society and environment worldwide. Best!

Hi All,

I'd like to thank Ms. Ruth G to consent for the interview with the Health and Fitness India network. Our Q&A are as follows:

1. Why did you decide to enter the fitness industry?

I entered the fitness industry because I always felt lethargic and dull and suffered from a lot of aches and pains as I was a very inactive person in my childhood. Due to which I was overweight, so when I started going to the Gym I felt very charged whenever I attended my aerobics class, leading to which I really lost a lot of weight. Here I realized I could be a part of the then new, growing fitness industry in 1996 and so here I am 16 years down the line, still actively involved in this Industry.

2. What are your specialties as a fitness professional?

I pride myself to be able to convince women not to treat their bodies badly by starving to lose weight. But I help them understand that to lose weight we have to feed our bodies with the right nutrients and hydrate regularly and I'm happy to say I've convinced most of my clients to eat regular, frequent meals.

My specialties as an instructor is I'm a certified Personal trainer and Aerobics Instructor and I have my current First Aid and CPR certification which empowers me to be be able to handle any unexpected situation while training clients. I specialize in PIYOLET classes which is a fusion of Pilates, Yoga and Ballet conditioning, Step aerobics, Kickboxing, Aerobics, Power yoga and Boot camp workouts were also my specialties until I got hooked on to Zumba fitness. Im also a Marketing Agent for Zumba in India. Soon I'm also going to restart taking PIYOLET classes in the near future.

3. What's a great piece of advise that you've given to a client?

I feel you live this life only once so it's best to live a quality life by eating moderately, not necessary to restrict yourself. Workout regularly, and stop crash dieting!! If you can eat everything moderately and have a pretty stable lifestyle it won't be difficult to maintain a good body weight and live an illness and ailment free life. I promise you life is worth loving because when you have no illnesses to worry about you can enjoy a great life.

4. Can you please share any major mistakes that fitness professionals make?

Only one word, Overconfidence!!! Instructors treat everyone the same like some army boot camp, we have to realize that everyone has unique body structures, metabolism, stresses etc. We are in this industry to help people get healthy so its our responsibility to see to it that we equip ourselves well enough to offer injury free workouts which can take a client through the stages of fitness slowly but successfully so that progress is ensured.

5. Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five and ten years from now?

5 years down the line i see myself mentoring new Group fitness Instructors to become active, responsible Instructors. I also hope to see every citizen fit enough to actively play with their grandchildren even at a very old age.

10 yrs down the line I see myself opening an academy for serious fitness professionals in India.

Several pages of photos of muscular girls and women who reflect beauty in strength!

I think that generally there's no one single look that's the ultimate best to all people at all times. For some people, a girl or woman might be a lot more muscular than they might find as beautiful, however, there can be people who will find that muscularity, strength and fitness as beautiful

Ladies, don't be turned off by lifting weights because you see a girl with lots of big muscles. It is generally very difficult to get lots of big muscles.

Doing proper weight training with a nutritious diet and proper rest will give you a healthy and fit body and you'll not look like a man!

Don't be scared of weight training ladies! You'll burn fat, shape your body, have strength and feel beautiful!

Hi All,

I'd like to thank Mr. Gurnit Singh Dua, Founder of The Fitness Factory www.thefitnessfactory.co.in, to consent for the interview with the Health and Fitness India network. Our Q&A are as follows:

1. Why did you decide to enter the fitness industry?

I was studying in England, and was impressed by how health conscious Britishers were. Whether it was hitting the gym regularly, or playing outdoor sports like football and rugby or even going for activities with their friends and families like hiking , trekking but fitness was something which was a part of their everyday life.

I was hooked onto body building as a result and started visiting the local gym in Bristol, UK.

My personality was totally transformed from a bulky 97 kgs to a super fit muscular guy weighing 76 kgs at 5'11 height.

I came back to india, and almost immediately started India's first professionally managed personal training company, The Fitness Factory (www.thefitnessfactory.co.in) and there has been no looking back since then (2005).

2. What are your specialities as a fitness professional?

I have several qualifications in Fitness and experience of over 10 years in Fitness / fitness studies .

3. What's a great piece of advise that you've given to a client?

Always take one step at a time and stay focused (You can only achieve the desired result if and only if you have an aim, a "LAKSHYA")

4. Can you please share any major mistakes that fitness professionals make?

- Being Presumptive

- Not being on time for their sessions (either at home/gym) and worst not informing the client

- Not dressing/smelling appropriately

- Overconfidence and not being open to the idea that one could know more than them also

- Pushing the clients too much (where it could be dangerous)

5. Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five and ten years from now?

I would like to see myself training the trainers on a PAN INDIA level in more than one disciplines and improving the level of Fitness / fitness sciences or fitness relates services here in India.
