BEST  TIME  FOR  PANCHKARMA

Are you feeling stressed out and anxious? Do you have trouble getting a good night's sleep? Are you struggling with pain, a chronic condition, or a difficult diagnosis?

If physical and emotional roadblocks are preventing you from fully enjoying your life, it's time to experience Perfect Health.

People come to Panchakarma for a variety of reasons, but with a shared desire to increase health, vitality and energy. To experience a calm mind and balanced nervous system and to have an inner sense of well being, that feeling of being truly comfortable in our own body.

Panchakarma is appropriate for almost everyone except young children and those of advanced years. There are specific contradictions for Panchakarma. We are very careful at Living Ayurveda to insure that Panchakarma is an appropriate treatment for you and your present level of health.

Some people are basically healthy, yet have a specific health concern. It may be as simple as the need to pause and renew due to a hectic life. It may be the desire to insure that a genetic family health trait is kept in check so as not to develop. Perhaps there have been issues and challenges around pregnancy. Panchakarma is an opportunity to unwind and release long held toxins, worries and memories. It is a time for you to create optimal good health in all areas. A time to reflect on life and determine if the life you are living is truly good for you, and if it is not, a time to change your direction to one more positive.

Others come to Panchakarma as the result of chronic disease and seek to stop the downward spiral of health. Addressing chronic or vague health issues or those difficult to diagnosis is one of Ayurveda’s strong suites. At some point people recognize that there are consequences to a lifetime of choices that are cumulatively creating a negative impact to their health. Poor diet, over exertion, smoking, drugs, alcohol and unhealthy relationships take a toll on our health. Panchakarma is a powerful yet kind and gentle way to remove these toxic accumulations and to begin to regain your health, your prosperity and your life.

Our physical, mental and emotional environments have changed dramatically in the past 70 years, more change has occurred on the planet in this time than the total change in all of time before. The introduction of new synthetic chemicals and electromagnetic influences from the impressive array of communication technologies are only two examples of recently invented outside influences. These outside influences combined with the pace at which we live, and the not so positive lifestyle choices we sometimes make, have created an unprecedented burden on the body. The human body is an amazing, evolving organism, but it simply does not have the capacity to adequately adapt to maintain health in the face of these radical environmental changes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, both very conservative health agencies, report that 85% of all diseases are the result of environmental exposure. More than 86,000 new chemical compounds are been created since Word War II. Less than 1% have been tested for impact to human safety. These chemical assaults are in our food, water and air. They are in our clothes, our homes and workplace.

It is mind boggling to realize that the very first television broadcast originated from Nazi Germany only 70 years ago. Today we are bombarded continuously with multiple forms of electromagnetic communication signals; cell phones, radio, microwaves and more.

It is hard to believe, given the pace that we now live, but the concept of “being on time” did not exist 80 years ago prior to the industrial revolution and modern manufacturing coming into being. We are pushed everyday to make every minute count. Consultants charge for the services by the minute, we pay for parking by the minute, and even our news is “up to the minute”. It is little wonder that we collapse into bed at night.

And there is the impact of our personal choices. The small choices that we make everyday in regards to diet, nutrition, exercise and even relationships, make a big impact on determining our level of health and disease. As a society we are living longer, yet very few of us reach our senior years disease free. There are a number of diseases and disease processes with non-specific causes; cancer, chronic fatigue, arthritis, osteoporosis, essential tremor, various auto-immune diseases and the list continues to grow. What is the value in living longer if to only suffer poor health? And to be a burden? These small choices we make everyday are similar to a snowball rolling down hill picking up “flakes” of poor health.

Education is a central component of care at Living Ayurveda. By being actively involved with every aspect of your care, we are able to spend more time with you, learn more about you, your life, and how you live. We can then provide education that is in alignment with your life and your constitution, to help you make better day-to-day choices. You begin to understand how you can exchange foods, activities and ways of thinking that do not match who you are for ones that truly support you and begin to stop the formation of this toxic snowball.

The good news, Panchakarma is as effective today as it was 5000 years ago. Panchakarma can counter these many challenges and be an invaluable aid in keeping us strong, vital and healthy. Panchakarma offers a systemic treatment that cleans and balances every cell in our bodies. Given the proper nutrition and removal of blockages and toxins, the human body will right itself and steer a course to good health.

Why Should I Undergo Pancha-karma Treatment?

Stress, environmental pollutants and poor lifestyle choices create a toxic load on the body that—if left in the tissues and bloodstream—results in poor health.

Panchakarma  reverses this degenerative process quickly and its effects are often profound and long-lasting. Panchkarma uses a combination of massage, herbal saunas, special foods and nutritional directives, mild fasting and colon therapies to rid the body of accumulated toxins.

Your personal Panchkarma program begins with a thorough exam by an Ayurvedic Physician, which enables the doctor to recommend a program tailored to your individual health. As your Panchkarma treatments progresses, you will be given a special diet combined with certain herbs and essential oils to use at home. These will help stimulate your liver and digestive organs, helping them to purge toxins.

What Can I Expect?

The Panchakarma cleansing process affects the whole person. Thus, during the program, you may notice changes on mental, physical and emotional levels. Many of our patients experience a “healing crisis.” This is a normal part of the healing process, and may be seen as a beneficial step toward optimal health.

The Healing Crises

A healing crisis occurs when a large quantity of toxins that have been locked in our tissues for years are released into the system for elimination. As these toxins are expelled, you may experience insomnia, heaviness, aching or general discomfort and flu-like symptoms. You may also develop a feverish feeling, which is simply your body’s way of burning up toxic waste. You may notice some emotional mood swings or experience intense feelings. Do not be alarmed—this is both a natural and necessary part of tissue cleansing. Make time to visit with your Ayurvedic Physician or facilitator on a daily basis while undergoing Panchkarma treatments and they will help to walk you through the process.

Completing the PANCHKARMA Cycle

To complete your Panchkarma treatment, you will do a mild fast and special liver purge followed by a specialized rejuvenation program. You will be amazed at your increased energy level and renewed vitality. Periodic Panchkarma treatments, in addition to your individual dietary and exercise routines, will help to prevent disease and maintain optimal health.

Ayurveda Terms, history And treatments

Ayurveda , Ayurveda Branches, Ayurveda Treatment

AYURVEDA Ayurveda is not a new method of treatment but it is one of the oldest methods of medical science. The history of Ayurveda goes way back to 5000 years.

All throughout the process of genesis, the science of dealing with diseases and other things that deter the growth processes, has flourished in a great way. Be it the early Egyptian techniques of preserving the dead body by mummifying them, or the practice in question, AYURVEDIC techniques have always been an immensely popular knowledge. Although today we know a lot about this ancient medical practice, there are some schools of thoughts that believe it to be an obsolete and mystical practice. To increase the knowledge base and public assertion for the subject it is important to know in detail about the basic tenants and principles of the subject.

           Ayurveda; the term

The term Ayurveda is a very commonly used term and has direct links with the Devanagari script. The word of the Sanskrit origin and just like the language is considered as one of the oldest and univocally, the mother of all archaic and contemporary medical practices. The literal meaning of the word is the knowledge of the way to a long life. This comes from the two word roots, ayur and ved meaning long life and knowledge respectively. There are various evidences in history that show that this ancient practice all started from the land of the Aryan rulers, India.

           Ancient history of the practice

As mentioned earlier, the earliest examples of ayurvedic practices can be rightly ascertained to India. There are several ancient scriptures and religious manuscripts full of detailed description of the various ayurvedic practices. Most of these literary records were written over a long period of time starting as early as the Vedic period in about second millennium BCE. Out of all the Vedas, the Atharva Veda gets a special mention as the fore-bearer of all the ancient ayurvedic theories and principles. Like all other writings in the Vedas, the entire concept of Ayurveda comes from 114 hymns that are written in the Atharva Veda. Later, over the years when more and more study and research in the field started, ancient saints and philosophers like Sushruta and Charaka became intensely involved and compiled huge volumes in the forms of Samhitas defining and redefining all the ayurvedic techniques. The volume that Maharishi Sushruta compiled came to be known as the Sushruta Samhita and is now considered as the ultimate encyclopedia for all ayurvedic practioners. Because of its intimate connections with the Indian mythology and particularly the Hindu religion, some say that the technique in itself is divine and is a gift of god to the human kind. The person thought responsible for bringing this on the Earth was Dhanvantari, who was also regarded as the first doctor. Although the practice started from the ashrams of the Indian peninsula, soon this practice travelled far and wide and became an active part of all western medicines. It was the Chinese travelers and scholars like Fa Hsein who visited the courts of eminent Indian rulers and took written notes of the ways of living in these empires. Although still in its novice stages, the techniques of Rhinoplasty, cataract operation, angina pectoris, curing anal fistulas etc. were well known to the saints and doctors. These practices were so accurate for that period that the British doctors and medical practitioners even wrote a detailed description of Rhinoplasty and published in the Gentlemans magazine.

What are the basic principles used in the practice?

Now that we have an idea about what and when did it all start, it is ideal to talk about the basic functional part of the science. While most the new world holds ayurveda to be a mythical and literally magical, it has a very scientific and systematic approach to all goes within it. Ayurveda is basically the science of curing the anomalies of the body by striking a cordial balance and harmony between the body elements. The ancient scholars took the body to be composed of elements or tatvas. These were the same as the ones that constituted all other beings and objects on this planet, air, water, wind, fire and Earth. Unlike the modern practices, ayurveda classified seven elements in the body, the sapta dhatu and three humors or energy fields namely, Vata, Pitta and Kaph. These represent the five quintessential elements. For example, Vata is for wind, Pitta demarcates fire, water, and the last one, Kaph for water and earth. According to the principles of Ayurveda, a body remains in the normal working condition as long as these three humors are in a balanced form. There are elaborate descriptions as to what is the right proportion of these in the Vedas and the two Samhitas. Any discrepancy here is called a Dosh and is the root cause of all medical ailments right from common cold to more complex ones like cancer. The science behind Ayurveda tells how maintain a balance between the three and cure a disease accordingly. Unlike modern allopathic medicine, the things used to treat the person in ayurveda are purely natural. The mountains and forests of India and the neighboring countries are full of these medicinal plants. Not only herbs, plant and animal parts like roots, buds, essential oils, cow urine etc. all find extensive use in this practice. It can be safely said that it was after studying the chemical properties in the plant and animal drugs that the synthetic drugs of today were formulated. For example, morphine, which is used as a painkiller in almost all parts of the world, is actually a plant product that finds mention the Vedas as a tool to suffice pain during and after an operation.

           Sub-disciplines within the study

Like all other modern practices that have a separate branch of specialization for different genres of work, the concept of ayurveda also entails this kind of classification and there are mainly eight branched within the science. Although the practice evolved from a time when it was a trend to pass on the knowledge orally and not in a well differentiated manner, the Samhitas and the several other religious literature books show a great level of organization. Under these eight broad headings there are numerous other areas of specialization and this level of demarcation and differentiation makes the science one of the most organized and systematic ones. Given below are the sub disciplines with a brief description of each. Kayachikitsa: - it is now called Internal Medicine and is just like the modern practices, including anatomical studies of the body and organs. Shalakya tantra: - it is the study of the surgical processes and the treatment of the head and neck region that is known as Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology respectively today. It basically deals with ENT. Shalya tantra: - it the knowledge of the process of cutting the body to cure internal dysfunctions. Sushruta was a well known surgeon in this field and the Samhita gives detailed descriptions of the surgical processes to cure several diseases. Agada tantra: - it is now known as toxicology and is the study of the effects of toxins on the body. Snake bites, food poisoning etc. come under this. Bhuta Vidya (Psychiatry) - as the name itself suggests, it deals with the disorders of the brain and how to treat mental disorders. Kaumarabhritya: - it is the study of child behavior and diseases infecting children. In the modern practices, this is called Pediatrics and is a very important part of the science. Rasayana: - it is the science of rejuvenation and the ways to encourage and initiate the process of anti-aging. Chemical drugs or plant products are studied to exploit their medicinal properties. Vajikarana: - modern day Gynecology is what this branch of Vajikarana is all about. It deals with the male and female reproductive systems, disorders and sexual behavior. In short, it is the science of fertility.

Along with all these techniques of treating the ailing body or mind, ayurveda also has close links with studies like astrology (jyotish vidya), yoga, study of the medicinal properties of herbs and other plant parts etc. In around 1500 BC, there were two further more divisions or rather specializations made in the discipline. These were the School of medicine (physician) led by the eminent sage, Atreya and the second was the school of surgery piloted by the famous curator, Sushruta. These two disciplines were the corner stones for the two great medicinal epic, The Charaka and Sushruta Samhita.

Diagnostic and prognostic methods used in ayurveda

As mentioned earlier, the basic principle behind all ayurvedic practices is to maintain a balance between the three humors of the body. This is carried forward in the diagnostic methods and often starts with checking the pulse of the patient, a process called Naadi vishleshan. This step in itself says a lot about the kind of disease and the misbalance of the humors. Next is the study of certain crucial points in the body called the Marma. These are located all over the body and pressing the particular point excites the corresponding visceral organ in the body. There are in fact, 15 to 20 techniques of examining the patient with detailed description in the Charaka Samhita. Just like modern anatomical studies, a detailed knowledge about the body construction and performance of the organs is vital for a good ayurvedic doctor.

The range of treatments include the use of plant related products like turmeric, cinnamon, neem etc. and animal products like cows urine, milk and many more. Certain elements and minerals like gold, silver, copper etc. are known to have medicinal properties and find their way into a branch of Ayurveda called Rasa shashtra. Not only oral administration of medicines, ayurvedic scriptures mention procedures like massages, yoga, meditation, controlled dietary habits etc. as an important part of the whole prognostic process. Due to its close relation to these allied branches like yoga and healthy living techniques, Ayurveda is also called the Wholeness medicine.

Today Swine flu has continued to spread and cause concern throughout the world. Governments have launched massive campaigns to create awareness among the general public about this disease. In spite of this, it continues to spread and pose a serious threat to millions of people.

Swine flu (swine influenza, hog flu or pig flu) is caused by A-H1N1 virus. The symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of regular seasonal flu. These include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. These symptoms may also be accompanied by diarrhoea and vomiting.

Swine flu can be cured with timely diagnosis and administration of right treatment.

Ayurveda, the 5000 year old medical science based on natural systems, has some excellent preventive and curative solutions to diseases such as swine flu. The most significant aspect of these measures is that they are entirely based on natural substances and, therefore, totally safe on the human body without causing any kind of side-effects..

What Is Swine Flu As Per AYURVEDA :)

According to Ayurveda, swine flu is placed under a class of diseases called Sannipataj Jvar. Sannipataj Jvar is basically triggered by an aggravation of the three Doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) and a loss of Ojas in the body. Low Ojas is lack of immunity at the physical level and absence of mental strength at the mind level. By strengthening the Ojas you can easily prevent diseases like swine flu from attacking you. Here are a few preventive tips:

Prevention:

– Maintain a safe distance from people that show evident signs of nasal congestion or flu symptoms.
– Do not greet people with a kiss or handshake.
– Do no share food, glasses or forks.
– Open and ventilate enclosed rooms.
– Keep kitchen countertops and bathrooms disinfected with bleach; disinfect toys, phones door knobs and any contact surface with alcohol.
– Visit your doctor immediately if you experience sudden high fever and cough, with headache and muscle pain.
– Avoid sudden temperature change.
– Eat fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A and C (Carrots, papaya, orange, tangerine, lime lemon and pineapple).
– Frequently wash hands thoroughly with plenty of soap and water.

# Home Remedies To Cure Swine Flu :)

•Kwatha (Decoction): Take 5 Tulasi (basil) leaves, 4 Kali Mirch (whole black pepper) beads, 3 Laung (clove) buds and 1 teaspoonful of fresh grated Adraka (ginger). Mix them in a glass of water and boil the entire mixture until the quantity of water is halved. Filter and add a teaspoonful of honey. Your Ayurvedic decoction is ready. Take this decoction twice daily.

body meridian clock

Why Do We Abruptly Wake Or Feel ill At Certain Time Of The Day ?

The 24 hour clock is divided into 12 two-hour intervals of the Qi (vital force) moving through the organ system. During sleep, Qi is drawn inward to restore the body. This phase is completed between 1 and 3 A.M., when the liver cleanses the blood and performs a myriad of functions that prepare the body for the Qi to move outward again.

The 12 hours after the prime functioning of the liver (which would be from 3 A.M. to 3 P.M.) include the energy cycles of the organs associated with daily activity: digestion and elimination. These organs include the lungs, large intestine, stomach, spleen/pancreas, heart and small intestine.

After 3 P.M., the flow of energy again moves inward to support internal organs associated with repairing the system. The purpose of this is to circulate fluids and heat, as well as to filter and cleanse. This time affects the pericardium, triple burner (coordinates water functions and temperature), bladder, kidneys, circulation/sex and the liver.

When one organ is at its peak energy, the organ at the opposite side of the clock, 12 hours away, is at its lowest ebb. For example, between 1-3 A.M., the liver reaches its peak, doing its work to cleanse the blood. At the same time, the small intestine (the organ responsible for the absorption and assimilation of many key nutrients) is at its lowest function.

What does this mean in real life application? For starters, it logically explains why you are taxing the system when it has to deal with late night meals and snacking. The body is not programmed to accommodate the modern habit of late-night eating habits and stimulation. When we eat late at night, food is not well absorbed by the small intestine (since it is resting) and the liver has little opportunity to do its job of housekeeping.

Why do we abruptly wake or feel ill at certain times of day?

The other morning I woke up at 5:26 A.M. from a nightmare about my teeth crumbling out of my mouth! Yes, I know that’s incredibly strange – a fun fact about me is that I have insane dreams that feel real, ALL the time. Once I had a dream that I was a horse. Literally. I was walking down the avenue by my house, just trotting on by, totally fine with the fact that I had four legs. Another time I had a dream that a teacher microwaved my tongue. I’ve never been normal, per say, so I suppose it comes with the territory?!

Anyway — the night I had the teeth dream I was a) dehydrated (drinking water is SO important) and b) constipated. TMI, but it happens to the best of us. I’m pretty sure (b) was caused by (a) because warm water with ginger and lemon upon waking did the trick. Regardless, both dehydration and constipation deal with the large intestine, which correctly lines up with the hours of 5-7 A.M. How fabulous is the human body? It is always leaving us clues in the forms of symptoms. Our symptoms are our friends; they are the language in which our body speaks. That’s why I love Chinese medicine… there are always charts and guides that allow you to translate these clues into the underlying issue.

As we discussed above, each “meridian” or organ system has a two hour period where they are the primary meridian. The meridians, however, are not just related to organs. They are linked to thoughts and emotions, color, sound, seasons and other spiritual aspects as well. When the energy of a meridian is not flowing well due to a block (like stress or toxicity), you’ll find that you’ll experience a sign or symptom from the meridian involved (just like my nightmare/abrupt waking).

If you also find you are waking up at the same time each night, or falling into a slump around 3 P.M., you can look at the meridian at work and what may be happening with you.

Here is a detailed list of the function of each meridian/organ system as well as the emotions that go with it. This is very important. Sometimes if we wake up at 3 A.M., it’s simply because we have a purely physical issue, i.e. the liver is not processing waste correctly or is hindered by gallstones. However, sometimes, the physical symptoms are manifesting because of an underlying emotion. The liver is heavily associated with anger, frustration, and rage; so if you’re waking up at 3 it might be because you’re holding onto toxic emotions that you must work through.

List of meridian functions from mcuniverse.com:

3am – 5am : Lung Time

Early stirring gentle breathing
Grief
Sadness

The toxic waste from your lungs becomes loosened between 3 to 5 am, and when you awaken, this is why you cough sometimes. Your lungs are trying to expel the loosened waste. If you are coughing in the morning, this indicates that your diet and lifestyle needs tweaking in order to reduce mucus and toxicity. Feeling ill at this time can also be an indication of deep grief that must be dealt with.

5am – 7am : Large Intestine Time

Rising and defecating
Guilt
Stuck
Defensiveness

To get the day off to a good start, give yourself enough time early in the morning to honor the normal elimination function of the large intestine. The morning is the most important time to drink plenty of water and the worst time to have caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic and takes water away from your colon to the kidneys and bladder for evacuation, but your body need water in the morning to keep up its repair and maintenance of the large intestine and colon. If you are feeling bad at this time, drink lots of water. Drinking plenty of water at this time keeps you from getting constipated, gaining weight, looking and feeling older and improves your overall health. From an emotional perspective, you may need to let go of guilt.

7am – 9am : Stomach Time

Healthy eating
Disgust
Despair

Now the flow of energy moves to the stomach stimulating hunger. You are encouraged to eat a hearty, healthy breakfast and thereby producing good amounts of long-lasting energy. Eating larger meals of the day early delivers nourishment to the small intestine when it is strongest, which aids absorption and assimilation. Issues during this time may mean that your stomach is too cold (especially since we as a Western society love salads, ice water, and smoothies!) Be sure to drink ginger tea to nourish the stomach.

9am – 11am : Pancreas/Spleen Time

Thinking and working
Jealousy/Worry
Low Self-esteem

TCM considers the Spleen the most important digestive organ, so even a late breakfast will be digested easily. On the other hand, this is also the time when allergies can show up the strongest because the Spleen is busy working with the Liver and your immune system. A healthy spleen produces antibodies when there is an infection and constantly watches the blood for invaders. Illness during this time can mean your spleen is deficient, or you are worrying/having self esteem issues. The spleen is also aided by ginger tea (Lily’s solution to everything!)

11am – 1pm : Heart Time

Meeting talking and eating
Joy
Frightfully Sad

Don’t overtax your heart at this time. You may sometimes notice a rapid heartbeat, double beats and/or skipping beats during this time period. Research shows that seventy percent of heart attacks occur during this time frame. Being full of joy, enthusiastic and restful makes the heart stronger, whereas the opposite emotions of saddness and gloom weaken the heart. Doing anything heat inducing during this time is not good for optimal heart health as the heart has an aversion to heat according to the TCM.

1pm – 3pm : Small Intestine Time

Sorting and organizing
Insecurity
Vulnerable / Gullible
Feelings of Abandonment

Have you noticed that between 1 to 3 pm you are more apt to have indigestion, pain and bloating? This shows a problem with your small intestine. Are you feeling insecure, self doubt, or abandoned? Do you have leaky gut? Bone broth soup can work wonders for gut issues and malabsorption.

3pm – 5pm : Bladder Time

Storing and reserving
associated with the Skin
Irritation
Timidity

At this time you may notice that you are tired and want a nap. Salty foods strengthen the Bladder, so drinking a cup of savory miso soup or nutrient-rich broth would be beneficial at this time.

5pm – 7pm : Kidney Time

Driving and consolidating
Fear
Terror

The feeling of being tired and wanting a nap could continue into this time frame. On the other hand when the Kidneys are healthy and working properly, you will feel energetic at this time and not tired. The kidneys are aligned with the adrenals, the glands that produce cortisol to help us spring out of bed in the morning. Early morning, from 5-7 am, is when kidney energy is weakest—a reason that people with depleted kidney energy often have trouble waking up to a new day.

7pm – 9pm : Pericardium, Circulation Sex Time

Associated with the brain, including the pituitary and hypothalamus and the reproductive organs
Socializing and flirting
Unresponsive
Hurt/Extreme Joy
Inability to Express Emotions
Depleted

Between 7 to 9 pm do you have intense cravings for sweets or processed carbohydrates that turn to sugar immediately in the system? The reason is because the Kidneys regulate the Pancreas, and if you do consume sweets during that period, you may notice lower back pain, which is a kidney symptom. The kidneys, bladder and pancreas are all parts of the same whole. If you need a nap early in the evening it is just your pancreas, as directed by your kidneys, putting you out so it can do its repairs.

9pm – 11pm : Triple Warmer Time

Associated with the Thyroid and Adrenals
Controls Metabolism
Energy Transfer and Regulates Temperature
Relaxing and Chilling
Hopelessness
Confusion, Paranoia

The Triple Warmer governs Blood Vessels and Arteries. From 9 to 11 pm the blood vessels go into repair mode. If you get headaches, feel abnormally tired or weak, this means that the blood vessels are in heavy repair.

11pm – 1am : Gall Bladder Time

Sleeping and regenerating
Bitterness
Resentment

(Related to liver, see below)

1am – 3 am: Liver Time

Deep resting and dreaming
Anger
Frustration
Rage

The Liver and Gallbladder spring into action between 11 pm to 3 am. Do you ever have nights when you can’t sleep at this time? This means that waste is not being processed by your liver and it acts as an irritant to your body causing insomnia and frayed nerves. Your brain just won’t stop. You may need to deal with unresolved anger and grudges towards others.
Understanding that every organ has a repair/maintenance schedule to keep on a daily basis offers you the opportunity to learn how to treat yourself for improved health and well-being. It also allows you to identify exactly which organ system or emotion needs strengthening/resolving. Always use your symptoms and body cues as a guide, and if you make a connection above, such as that you get sleepy between 5-7pm, don’t hesitate to research what you can do to strengthen that meridian (which would be the Kidneys). A great solution to deficient kidneys is having a sweet potato for breakfast!

Make sure to look at the emotional aspect too. If you’re sleepy during kidney time, do you have any fears holding you back from reaching your true potential? Are you afraid of rejection? Failure? Addressing this emotion will strengthen the organ and improve your physical health forever.

PCOS-Symptoms-Signs.png

PCOS sign and symptoms

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, also known as PCOS or PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease), is a very common hormonal disorder in women.

Ayurveda classifies PCOS as a Kapha disorder.Vata is responsible for movement of the follicle during the ovarian cycle, the rupture of the ovary wall releasing the matured ovum, the movement of the fimbriae – the finger like projections that guide the ovum into the fallopian tubes and the movement of the ovum towards the uterus. The action of the hormones expresses the nature of pitta, the energy responsible for transformation.Kapha’s heavy cool qualities nourish the development of the tissues that form and support the reproductive system including the nurturing energy supporting growth of the follicle during the ovarian cycle.PCOS is due to kapha blocking vata and pitta, hence movement is obstructed and the transformation process is suppressed.

Artava dhatu affected by the heavy sticky qualities of kapha and ama creates srota dushti in artavavaha srota. Apana vayu in artavavaha srota becomes stagnant – sanga, due to excessive kapha and ama accumulation blocking the channel impeding the flow of vata in the ovarian cycle. Because vata is blocked, pitta is blocked as well as pitta in order to act as the intelligence behind transformation needs the movement of vata in order for its energy to have potential. As pitta is blocked the hormones that carry the energy of transformation are unable to initiate their action. The accumulated kapha is expressed in the formation of the cyst in the ovary as it takes on a heavy white sticky quality expressing kapha and ama.

Due to vata and pitta being blocked in artava dhatu the other functions of both these doshas begin to become aggravated. Pitta aggravation at the level of bhrajaka pitta and ranjaka pitta manifests as acne and increased body hair. Menstrual problems manifest due to the aggravation of all three doshas but namely apana vayu.

"Without the aggravation of Vata, the vagina does not get disordered in women, hence it should be treated before Pitta and Kapha" – Astanga Hrdayam

# Treatment of PCOS With Allopathic Medicines :

Allopathy treats the condition on lines of hormonal imbalance and the major treatment includes HRT (hormone replacement therapy) where subsequent hormones are administered after proper evaluation of the patient. Apart from that, diet and certain exercises are also recommended. Apart from that, there is a growing belief that PCOS occurs due to malfunction of the hormone insulin and hence diabetic drugs like metformin may also be prescribed by your doctor for the same. Surgery is also an option exercised where the ovary is punctured or the cystic tissue above the ovary is destroyed for better hormonal gain. However, all these have their own after effects and you must evaluate all options about it by talking with your gynecologist and personally researching on the net. This rule not only applies to allopathy but also to other streams of medicine as after all it is your body.

In taking hormones, it further depletes your endocrinal system and puts them in sleep. The stuff that has to be naturally released by the body, once delivered with artificial means puts the body in a lazy mode. The HRT treatment may give you good results but is not recommended in long run as it can cause other problems.

# Now taking in account the above-mentioned treatment modalities, we can place a pattern for proper evaluation and treatment modalities for PCOS.

  1. Eat at regular intervals. For example, if you have breakfast, lunch, and dinner between 8 to 9, 12 to 2 and 8 to 9 respectively, see to it that you follow these timings as the thyroid gland become trained to secrete juices in these times. Any variations and it puts pressure on the glands. Doesn't matter even if you gulp down a glass of milk, but the timings must be maintained.

  1. Salt restriction is another major aspect. Prepare food without salt. Take as much as you want in the plate (only one helping) then add salt to taste. Prefer saindhav salt (Himalayan crystal salt).

  1. Have a papaya for breakfast/dinner at least 2-3 times a week until your cycles regularize. Apart from that also intake porridge prepared from Ragi extract (nachini, Eleusine coracana). prefer crystal sugar (Khadisakhar, Mishri) for taste instead of normal sugar. Weight watchers can prefer sugar substitutes however crystal sugar is very safe.

  1. Avoid sleeping after lunch. Have a glass of buttermilk (prepared without salt).

  1. Stay away from direct/indirect use of the following items; Brinjals, Peas, Peanuts, cauliflower, seafood, pickles, curds (buttermilk is okay), green chilies, mustard, bakery products (pastries okay).

# Here is List of some simple herbal decoctions, which if taken over a period of 2 to 3 months will definitely help:

  1. Take Ashwagandha roots (Withania somnifera; entire about 150 grams), Arjun bark (Terminalia arjuna; about 70 grams) from a local herb shop. Divide both of these into 30 equal parts. Now boil 1 part every morning in 3 cups of water (approximately 150 ml) and reduce to 1 cup. Now filter this mixture and add 1 cup of cow's milk to it. Boil the mixture again over a low flame until milk remains. Add 2 cardamoms while boiling. Consume this milk early morning empty stomach. Little sugar can be added for taste. The remaining filtrate of Ashwagandha and Arjun can be used similarly in evening. During summer months, Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus var. javanica) can be substituted for Ashwagandha.

  1. After 30 days or 35 days if the periods do not commence have the following mixture for 3 days, 10 grams Nagkeshar (Mesua ferra flower stamens), 10 gms crystal sugar (Khadisakhar, Mishri) and 10 gms Cow's ghee (clarified butter from cow), it must be mixed and consumed with milk once a day. The above combination is for one day. If the periods do not commence even after this medicine, then do not worry. Keep taking the above medicine. Eventually they will come and with proper ovulation.

  1. Castor Oil Pack : A Castor Oil Pack is a cloth soaked in castor oil which is placed on the skin to enhance circulation and promote healing of the tissues and organs underneath the skin. When it comes to fertility Castor Oil packs could be a great, supportive and relaxing therapy .

The above simple remedy coupled with diet will definitely help and let you lead a normal menstrual life with kids and no infertility. In case you feel you need to evaluate this option more, try and consult a good Ayurveda physician. Having customized and specialized treatments will help you gain more. For example:

  1. Generic preparations like Ashwagandharishta, Ashokarishta, Kumaryasava, Chandraprabha Vati, Pushyanug churna, Phal Ghrita, Raupya Bhasma, Vang Bhasma, Abrakh Bhasma, etc. are useful.

  1. Panchakarma techniques like Basti, Uttar Basti, Vaman, Virechana, Nasya are also undertaken.

  1. Certain yogic exercises like Simhasan, Vajrasan, Shalabhasan, Sarvangasan are also helpful and may be coupled with the above medicines.

Relaxation is the key in Polycystic Ovarian Disease. Posture’s designed for PCOD helps open up the pelvic area & promote relaxation and strength to the entire reproductive organs. You can relax in the asana by coordinating it with breathing. Pranayama’s (breathing exercises) are powerful techniques that help calm the mind. Yoga has several poses that aids in weight loss, relieves stress and improves blood circulation to the ovary, thus naturally curing PCOD

# PCOS Herbs and Supplements :

In addition to eating the PCOS diet, supplements have shown to be effective in helping those with PCOS boost there fertility and give birth to healthy babies. The overall goal with PCOS is to balance blood sugar levels in the body, maintain hormonal balance, promote healthy digestion for improved estrogen metabolism, while also working to promote regular ovulation and menses. Adaptogen herbs are also important, this is because adaptogens increase resistance to mind-body stress and enhance overall vitality and health through non-specific adrenal (known as stress glands) support. Plants recognized as adaptogens help to normalize the body’s functions, most importantly the endocrine system, even during diseased states, are non-toxic, nutritive, and have been deemed safe for long term use.

# Ayurveda says to do this before trying conception #

Besides the above remedies, the simple Ayurveda method to check if the periods are adulatory and with proper hormonal functions is to take a few drops of menstrual blood on a clean white cloth and wait for few seconds. Now wash the cloth with plain warm water (no soap, detergents) and observe if it leaves a pickle like stain. Clean periods as per Ayurveda must not leave stain on the cloth. Once you achieve that, you can then try conception !

Please feel free to add your feedback on this topic & if you like it do share it with your friends !

Hi Everyone, I keep hearing from people on how to burn, reduce and lost fat and get slim and fit. People say they don't have time or money or both for going to gym.

If you're struggling with fat and want a slim and fit body then I'm starting this post to share valuable videos that you can do at home.

At first before you start doing any exercises, make sure that you've no health issues or get a doctor check-up.

It can take several months to start seeing significant results. Major improvements can be possible by exercising for months and years. Also, it's critical to eat right on a daily basis. Soon, I'll share an article on simple healthy things to buy and eat.

Keep the pace slow enough that you're doing the exercises properly. Avoid injuries by keeping the intensity at which you can do the exercises properly. At start, you'll take time to properly understand what's being shown in the videos. Watch the same exercise repeatedly to follow the steps properly.

If you want personal trainer, nutritionist, dietitian or life coach who can guide you in person or on the Internet or phone then you can ask me. I'll find you professionals for your requirements and in your budget and if they don't work well then I'll find you other professionals. I'm increasingly connected to professionals who can benefit you.

Avoid running if you don't have an excellent treadmill or ground and footwear and know how to run or else you can hurt yourself in the short to long term.

You can also use a nice bio-mechanically designed cross-trainer or bike at home. Make sure to know how to use them correctly before using them. They might seem easy to use, however, can still cause injuries if not set and used properly.

Along with home exercises, also go for brisk walks with proper footwear.

And keep drinking water (see WebMD tips) and breathing!
