www.healthfitnessindia.com/video/explanation-handstand-push-ups-scales-kipps-strict-crossfit-india

On 27 June 2013: Amazing! I've been going to a physiotherapist since few days. Today morning before going to him, I watched the Greg Glassman, Founder & CEO, Crossfit: March 13, 2013, Full Talk video (see below).

After that I created the Crossfit - Health and Fitness India page.

After that I went to the clinic. There I met a news reporter who's the deputy bureau chief of a top news channel. Highly unfortunately, he has suffered multiple fractures because he fell forward and that he put his hands straight which caused the multiple fractures. I could hear him scream in pain as the physiotherapist was working on him.

When the physiotherapist got done, I mentioned to him that we should teach functional training to the masses like how to fall, how to pick up things and etc. on which the physiotherapist said yes. I think that if the masses are unhealthy and unfit then it's negative for them and for our society, environment and world overall.

Crossfit is about functional training and fitness and that it's amazing that I had thought of it and that had viewed the founder's hour long video and that had also created the Crossfit - Health and Fitness India Facebook page just before going to the clinic and meeting the news reporter.

I shared with the news reporter the Health and Fitness India network's website and I wish that he would help me to bring the site increasingly to the people in India and also worldwide. I asked him if he has a child on which he showed me the photo of his little daughter on his mobile. I suggested him to provide her functional training from early on. I wish that my efforts would be of increasing value to our world and that I would also work with more and more of the best people from worldwide.

Combining the CrossFit training methodology with a diet of meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar brings "a jet stream of adaptation," says CrossFit founder Greg Glassman.

In the pyramid Glassman created, nutrition is the foundation, with met-cons, gymnastics, weightlifting and throwing, and sport following.

"Each level builds on the level below it," explains Nicole Carroll, director of certification. "If your nutrition sucks, these things will not be where they could be if it were more solid."

Likewise, Glassman says CrossFit favors Barry Sears' Zone Diet "because it does give me accurate and precise prescription for caloric intake and, more importantly, the exact levels of macronutrient that I can start at."

Likewise, trainers and coaches can make informed decisions on how to tweak an athlete's diet for improved performance, he says.

CrossFit HQ trainer Pat Sherwood says nutrition isn't an either/or aspect of training.

"It's not quality or quantity. It can and it should be both."

CrossFit Open 14.3 WOD STRATEGY AND TIPS ON DEADLIFTS AND BOX JUMPS -- TECHNIQUE WOD

From the About section of video:

CrossFit can change how a woman both defines beauty and feels about her body, as Rita Benavidez, Jackie Perez, Erin Cianciolo and Andrea Ager discuss in this video.

Once thinking beauty was a picture of a waify woman on a magazine, Benavidez feels differently now. "My perception of beauty has changed over the past few years," Benavidez says. "True beauty ... is strength and fitness, and confidence in yourself."

Perez was originally motivated by trying to be skinny. "That wasn't getting me anywhere," she says. "With CrossFit, I set goals. I want to deadlift 225, I'm going to hit that faster than I'm going to look in the mirror and like what I see."

Ager says putting in the work is key to getting what you want. "I think that hard work and the way that your body looks go so hand-in-hand," she says. "Once you do get a body that you want, you're very proud of it ... you're proud of what your body can do."

Through CrossFit, these women are confident, stronger and fitter. They are mothers, tomboys, coaches. They are CrossFit athletes.

What is CrossFit?

From the About section of video:

What is CrossFit? CrossFit is an effective way to get fit. Anyone can do it. It is a fitness program that combines a wide variety of functional movements into a timed or scored workout. We do pull-ups, squats, push-ups, weightlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, and a host of other movements. Always varied, always changing, always producing results. Kids, cops, firefighters, soccer moms, Navy SEALS, and grandmas all do CrossFit. In fact, hundreds of thousands worldwide have followed our workouts and distinguished themselves in combat, the streets, the ring, stadiums, gyms and homes.

CrossFit - Number 1 and Number 2: A Day of Training

Find out how 2010 Games champion Graham Holmberg and second-place finisher Rich Froning Jr. are training for the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games. At the Rogue Fitness training center in Columbus, Ohio, and CrossFit Cookeville at Tennessee Tech University, Sevan Matossian captures these two elite athletes preparing themselves for the mental and physical battles they are soon to encounter.

Reminiscing on his experiences last year, Froning says, "You can look at it like I lost or you can look at it like he won, and either way the outcome is he won. There's not much you can do about it, and I can't change anything about it."

To prepare for this year's Games, Froning says his game plan is simple: "Train as hard as I can. That's what I'm going to do, and that's what I have been doing."

Reigning champion Holmberg confronts criticism about his performance and obscurity over the past year. He says the Open was a "lose-lose situation" for him—if he did well, people expected it, but if he did poorly, people would question his capability. Holmberg finished 37th overall in the Open, and he didn't compete in a regional event.

Both athletes say they are ready for the Home Depot Center and July 29. They analyze their own past performances and that of their peers, sizing up the competition.

"We'll see what happens when we get to the Games," Holmberg says. "That's all that really matters."

Below watch growing number of videos and articles of mostly women and some men trainers performing Kettlebell exercises and workouts for fat loss, strength, power, cardio-vascular endurance, muscular endurance, speed and flexibility.

Ladies, don't be turned off by lifting weights because you see a girl with lots of big muscles. It's very difficult to get lots of big muscles.

Doing weight training with a nutritious diet and proper rest will give you a healthy and fit body and you'll not look like a man! Don't be scared of weight training ladies! You'll burn fat, shape your body, have strength and feel beautiful!

"The reason the kettlebell is so great is that there’s offset center of gravity," says Laura Alton, a certified trainer, physical therapist, and Russian kettlebells certified instructor at the Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas.

That means your body has to work harder to maintain balance. In so doing, you work many different muscle groups -- and get your heart rate up at the same time.

Hoisting the heavy metal bells not only helps strengthen your arms and pecs, but also works your core, heart, and lungs.

Riva Rahl, MD, medical director for wellness programs at the Cooper Fitness Center says "If you're doing it appropriately, the benefits are huge."

If you're thinking about trying kettlebells, you should know these three things:

1. Technique matters

2. Work with a trainer

3. Look for a smooth handle

Kettlebell Workout: DOs and DON'Ts, Common Mistakes VIDEO

http://www.healthfitnessindia.com/video/kettlebell-workout-do-and-do-not-do-common-mistakes-errors-fixes

There are 3 main events/disciplines in kettlebell sport; (i) the jerk, (ii) the long cycle clean & jerk, and (iii) the snatch. The jerk requires the athlete to clean two kettlebells to the chest once, and then jerk them overhead as many times as possible. The long cycle clean & jerk requires the athlete to clean both kettlebells prior to each jerk. The snatch, which is the only event that uses one kettlebell, is performed by swinging the kettlebell between the legs and brought up to the overhead position in one uninterrupted motion.

The athlete is only allowed to switch hands once during the time frame. Professionals compete in weight categories using 32 kg kettlebell(s) for men, and women using 24 kg kettlebell(s). Each event is tested for maximal repetitions in the ten minute time frame without setting the kettlebells down.

A judge is assigned to each athlete to ensure that only proper repetitions are counted. Because the athlete cannot set the kettlebell(s) down, efficient technique must be used to last the entire ten minutes.

Hi All,

I'd like to thank Ms. Sonia Bajaj to consent for the interview with the Health and Fitness India network. Our Q&A are as follows:

Photo: Ms. Sonia Bajaj, Fitness and Nutrition Coach, giving award at MISS North India 2013. Facebook photo link

1. Why did you decide to enter the fitness industry?

After delivering 2 boys as any other woman tried to cut down on that extra fat on my body. Tried all kinds of yo yo diets, paid a good amount of money to the so called dieticians. Kept on going through the same circle of loosing few kilos on scale, and as soon as quitted the diet, went back to square one.

Finally planned to give up all diets, started exercising and eating a balanced diet, which could be followed life long. I saw such awesome changes in my body, not only in terms of fat loss, but also in terms of strength, stamina, agility, power.

I became a happier soul, more confident. So decided that if can share my experience with all those men and women who are struggling for years to lose fat in a right way, so that it never comes back, would be a great achievement for me.

Hence totally dedicated myself to promoting health and fitness.

2. What are your specialties as a fitness professional?

I've done my group certification with Reebok.

I've done my Personal Training certification with AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EXERCISE.

I'm certified in Pilates, Kickboxing, and Prenatal and Postnatal workouts.

I've done workshops in TRX AND BOSU workouts.

I'm a certified nutritionist by BFY MUMBAI.

People ask me WHERE ARE THE MACHINES IN YOUR GYM.

3. What's a great piece of advise that you've given to a client?

I see a lot of excellent and certified fitness coaches here in India. But what I have realized is that what we need as per the times is Fitness motivators.

We have to train the brain before training any other muscle group. People give it up very fast, everyone is looking for a short cut.

4. Can you please share any major mistakes that fitness professionals make?

My piece of advice to my clients and every one reading this is that take care of your body.

Just give 30 minutes 5 days a week to yourself.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOURSELF, FAT LOSS WILL BE THE ICING ON THE CAKE.

5. Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five and ten years from now?

Few year from now I see people following what I try to enforce today;

FAT LOSS IS NOT A ONE DAY, ONE MONTH OR ONE YEAR PROJECT,

It's a LIFESTYLE CHANGE.

If you wonder how to jog or run then watch this video presented by Dr. Andre Albrecht from Germany

From http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/encyclopedia/content.aspx?ContentTypeID=1&ContentID=2035

Which is better for you, jogging or walking?

Nearly all studies show that jogging provides slightly more benefits for your bones, muscles, heart, and lungs. But walking has gained a lot of ground in the last decade or so as a viable exercise. It strengthens bones, tones muscles, and helps your cardiovascular system.

Walking is easier on the body's joints. It causes far fewer injuries to heels, shins, knees, and hips than jogging or stair climbing, according to the American College of Sports Medicine.

And virtually everybody can walk.

Moreover, walking is linked to better physical functioning, even among older people who already suffer from chronic disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Sports Medicine. Both of these two groups call for getting at least 30 minutes of walking or a similar activity every day. This level of exercise burns at least 150 calories of energy.

For those of any age who can handle greater intensity and joint-pounding, however, jogging may be the way to go.

I like shoes, however, Christopher McDougall Talk from TED.com also has its values

http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/christopher_mcdougall_are_we_born_to_run.html

From http://healthyliving.azcentral.com/jogging-night-2225.html "Because of certain physiological factors—including body temperature and the release of key energy-metabolizing hormones—some joggers may find they function better at night, according to Shawn D. Youngstedt, Ph.D., professor of exercise science at the University of South Carolina."

I'll keep sharing in the comments below!

Yesterday evening, the person who opens/closes the gym told me that I lift the most weight there. I told him that I'm a small guy and that there are so many much bigger people and also great bodybuilders and that I wish that I can keep improving lifelong. Then I searched for videos on Kashmir given the highly unfortunate current issue. Besides other videos, I also watched Defending the LoC Part-1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apddqw6Ks4g, Part-2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp2idHxTErM and Part-3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C74MR9g2R0c. Salute to Sipahi (Soldier) who laughs off the fear to protect me. This salute is to all Sipahis worldwide who protect humans. Imagine a world in which all such soldiers unite against those disregarding the universal human values.

After these videos, I read a spiritual article (I usually read an article at night with dad who generally gives it from one of the books). It was about mann (mind) and that it has ichcha-shakti (power to desire) and sankalp-shakti (power of intention). I've thought of several times to also go to gym in the morning for doing cardio since I lift weights during evening. I went to gym once in the morning some days ago the day after I reactivated the Health and Fitness India site http://www.healthfitnessindia.com. I reactivated it sooner than I had thought thinking that if we can't be healthy and fit then our heads might not remain in the proper place for long. Given current events, things seem very unfortunate in India and that being much healthier and fitter should help us do much better.

Today morning, I woke up without any alarm and that when I saw the time it was few minutes before 7am and that the gym in my apartment complex opens at 7am. However, I felt that I hadn't recovered from yesterday evening's workout well enough. I've to speed up recovery with nutrition products. For some months, I'm regularly eating eggs, often kala chana (bengal gram), sometimes soya and then lentils, oats, milk and other veg. food as protein sources. So I rested for another hour and half and then went to gym.

A different person opens/closes the gym in the morning. I spoke to him in general and that when I asked his name, he said Manveer! (Man here stands for Mind and Veer for Brave). He said that he wants to do business after some years. I told him that he can start today by selling imported and affordable anti pollution mask made using Defense technology which will be a great service to society and he can also earn well on the side. He told me to show it to him which I would. I wish that all of us can keep improving our society and environment worldwide. Best!

Hi All,

I'd like to thank Ms. Ruth G to consent for the interview with the Health and Fitness India network. Our Q&A are as follows:

1. Why did you decide to enter the fitness industry?

I entered the fitness industry because I always felt lethargic and dull and suffered from a lot of aches and pains as I was a very inactive person in my childhood. Due to which I was overweight, so when I started going to the Gym I felt very charged whenever I attended my aerobics class, leading to which I really lost a lot of weight. Here I realized I could be a part of the then new, growing fitness industry in 1996 and so here I am 16 years down the line, still actively involved in this Industry.

2. What are your specialties as a fitness professional?

I pride myself to be able to convince women not to treat their bodies badly by starving to lose weight. But I help them understand that to lose weight we have to feed our bodies with the right nutrients and hydrate regularly and I'm happy to say I've convinced most of my clients to eat regular, frequent meals.

My specialties as an instructor is I'm a certified Personal trainer and Aerobics Instructor and I have my current First Aid and CPR certification which empowers me to be be able to handle any unexpected situation while training clients. I specialize in PIYOLET classes which is a fusion of Pilates, Yoga and Ballet conditioning, Step aerobics, Kickboxing, Aerobics, Power yoga and Boot camp workouts were also my specialties until I got hooked on to Zumba fitness. Im also a Marketing Agent for Zumba in India. Soon I'm also going to restart taking PIYOLET classes in the near future.

3. What's a great piece of advise that you've given to a client?

I feel you live this life only once so it's best to live a quality life by eating moderately, not necessary to restrict yourself. Workout regularly, and stop crash dieting!! If you can eat everything moderately and have a pretty stable lifestyle it won't be difficult to maintain a good body weight and live an illness and ailment free life. I promise you life is worth loving because when you have no illnesses to worry about you can enjoy a great life.

4. Can you please share any major mistakes that fitness professionals make?

Only one word, Overconfidence!!! Instructors treat everyone the same like some army boot camp, we have to realize that everyone has unique body structures, metabolism, stresses etc. We are in this industry to help people get healthy so its our responsibility to see to it that we equip ourselves well enough to offer injury free workouts which can take a client through the stages of fitness slowly but successfully so that progress is ensured.

5. Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five and ten years from now?

5 years down the line i see myself mentoring new Group fitness Instructors to become active, responsible Instructors. I also hope to see every citizen fit enough to actively play with their grandchildren even at a very old age.

10 yrs down the line I see myself opening an academy for serious fitness professionals in India.

17 facts and myths about great skin

http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-07-22/beauty/30275843_1_skin-type-facts-and-myths-hair

By increasing blood flow, exercise helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. "Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin," says dermatologist Ellen Marmur, MD, author of Simple Skin Beauty: Every Woman's Guide to a Lifetime of Healthy, Gorgeous Skin and associate professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In addition to providing oxygen, blood flow also helps carry away waste products, including free radicals, from working cells. Contrary to some claims, exercise doesn't detoxify the skin. The job of neutralizing toxins belongs mostly to the  liver. "But by increasing blood flow, a bout of exercise helps flush cellular debris out of the system," Marmur tells WebMD. "You can think of it as cleansing your skin from the inside."

Exercise has also been shown to ease stress. "And by decreasing stress, some conditions that can be exacerbated by stress can show some improvement," says Brian B. Adams, MD, associate professor and director of the Sports Dermatology Clinic at the University of Cincinnati. Conditions that can improve when stress is reduced include acne and  eczema. Although researchers are still investigating the link between stress and skin, studies show that the sebaceous glands, which produce oil in the skin, are influenced by stress hormones.

I thought of starting this blog post after the following experience. Like how a suggestion from a friend helped me, I wish that this blog post including the comments would be of value to people. Most of the following isn't related to improving facial skin quality (do see the comments below for skin related updates):

I started going to gym in my apartment complex. During evening, I went to salon in my apartment complex. The owner is my friend. I asked about (glycerin + gulab jal + lemon) mix to apply on face for several pimples that have come on my face. He said I should try it. He also said to drink Safi. I said that I'm looking for a new gym since not working out regularly in recent weeks has probably also brought several pimples. He said that why don't I go to the one in my apartment complex. I said that I'll check it out which I did and they've serviced the equipment only a week ago. It's fine and moreover it saves my time a lot which I can use for dance class that I've wanted to join for a long while. Also, I've always wanted to go to gym twice in a day with cardio in morning and weight training in evening which I can try to do now much better.

After checking out the gym, I went to the salon and asked my friend to come along with me to workout on which the person said that the society doesn't allow them for which I felt very upset. I said I would try to speak with society management on which the person said that it has already been discussed. I wish this person can exercise regularly. I'm very thankful to this person for the suggestion. I also keep giving this person my suggestions on marketing and other things. I wish that we can be of value to each other for the long term.

I also spoke to a yoga teacher who had held a class for ladies in the community center. He's trying to setup a power yoga class for males and which I'm looking forward to if the batch can be made.

Best,
Shakti

Hi All,

I'd like to thank Ms. Shweta Pratap Singh to consent for the interview with the Health and Fitness India network. Our Q&A are as follows:

1. Why did you decide to enter the fitness industry?

I've been inclined towards fitness & good health from a very young age. Whilst in school I was actively involved in various sports. I've always been a firm believer of the age old belief that your Body is a temple so you ought to respect it like one. It was this passion of mine for fitness & well being that eventually led me towards taking on fitness as a full fledged career...

2. What are your specialties as a fitness professional?

My specialties as a fitness instructor are : I'm a certified Personal trainer and Aerobics Instructor with the following specialties :

(a) Step and Floor Aerobics
(b) Pilates
(c) Power Yoga
(d) Kick Boxing
(e) Circuit Training

I am also a licensed Zumba Fitness Instructor having done several specialty training's such as Zumba Toning, Zumbatomic and currently enrolled for Aqua Zumba as well.

3. What's a great piece of advise that you've given to a client?

Most of the clients I have come across in my career span are usually people who are looking for a quick fix solution for weight loss due to a big event such as a wedding etc. However my advice to them is always that there is no shortcut nor substitute for fitness as a whole and it has to be a part of one's daily life so that one can lead a genuinely healthy and hence rewarding life.

I also advise my female clients that weight training is really important for them as well because most of them think that weight training is the sole domain of men and if they were to do it, they would really bulge up and look manly. Nothing could be further from truth as correct weight training can help women also in a big way as it increases bone density thereby preventing osteoporosis in old age and corrects the metabolic rate as well and thus helps in reduction of weight much faster.

4. Can you please share any major mistakes that fitness professionals make?

Basically every human is designed differently and therefore as a a responsible fitness trainer, one cannot treat all clients in the same manner. Also, its very critical to check a clients past/ present medical history - a fact that is generally overlooked by instructors. The fitness trainer has to design a fitness programme that is commensurate with the clients individual health and fitness levels, their body type and lifestyle.

5. Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five and ten years from now?

Five years down the line I visualise myself as having traveled round the world learning different forms of fitness and exercise including specialised martial arts such as Krav Maga etc. and add onto my certifications in various specialties. By the tenth year i want to be firmly established in the field of fitness having increased my reach to maximum number of people by having established my own signature fitness centres.
